Advocating for Refugees before the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights

A Thematic Hearing before the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights (IACHR)

Thursday, October 31st, 3:15pm – 4:15pm EST

Asylum Access sought a review of refugee status determination (RSD) processes to ensure access to due process as part of our regional advocacy for improvements in RSD ahead of the 30th Anniversary of the Cartagena Declaration of Refugees in 2014.

Following the public hearing, Asylum Access co-hosted a debriefing on the following day, Friday, November 1st, 8:30am EST, with Refugee Council USA and the International Human Rights Law Clinic of the American University, Washington DC. Asylum Access leadership staff from Ecuador will be discussing the hearing and asylum trends in the Americas.

*”The Human Rights Situation of Refugees in the Americas” is a public hearing scheduled for Thursday, October 31, 3:15pm EST at the IAHRC in Washington, DC. Asylum Access submitted the petition together with the following organizations: the International Detention Coalition, Sin Fronteras I. A. P. de México, Consultoria para los Derechos Humanos y el Desplazamiento (CODHES), Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL),Instituto Migrações e Direitos Humanos (IMDH), Observatoria La Migraciones en El Caribe (OBMICA), Refugee Council USA, US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), and the American University.
